🟥 Hello Joyce! Thank you for allowing me to spotlight you this week! Please introduce yourself!
🟦 I’m Joyce Wong. I was born and raised in Edmonton but lived in Australia when I went there to complete my second Masters Degree. I have a fur family consisting of two cats and one dog. This year I’ll be turning 41.
🟥What was your entry point into the fitness lifestyle?
🟦 I feel like there wasn’t a beginning to my fitness journey, rather fitness has always been a big part of my life. Perhaps hints of my interest in being physically active started when my mom refused to by me white shoes anymore ‘cause I would come home with them completely filthy from playing so hard in them. I was a competitive swimmer, played basketball in junior high and was on the high school track and field team. After high school I also rowed recreationally, dragon boated competitively, but most recently, a competitive Ultimate Frisbee player, where my team has medaled twice nationally and competition has taken me to American Nationals and Pan American Championships. I don’t particularly enjoy running but have seen it as a challenge to overcome so over the last five years I have completed a half marathon and run Sinister 7 Ultramarathon as a team three times.
🟥 Wow this is unbelievable! Thank you for sharing.. I love the wide range of sports you have pursued! Can you share any struggles that you have overcome?
🟦The struggles I’ve had to overcome when it comes to my fitness have been balancing fitness with life. As someone who always had a coach, the biggest hurdle I had to overcome as an young adult was being responsible for my own workouts. Initially it was difficult for me ‘cause I was always used to training towards competition. Training for my own goals or just for general fitness seemed so foreign that I felt a bit directionless with any one of my single workouts. The other side of my struggle was the diet side. I used to train so much I never thought about what I ate. As I’ve aged, my metabolism is not as forgiving lol, and finding a balance of a diet that would give me good energy, keep my body at a satisfying shape, and not feeling a prisoner to food is still a struggle.
🟥 So many of us can relate. So, is this why you hired a Personal Trainer?
🟦This is a perfect segue to why I hired a trainer. I wanted to find someone who could give me purpose to my workouts. Following a coaches instructions is something I was very used to and very accountable to versus creating my own workouts. I wanted someone I could discuss and balance my fitness and dietary goals with. I’ve come to realize that I enjoy a personalized approach versus downloading internet workouts because doing the latter wasn’t meeting my goals.
🟥 I am so glad you did! I really relate to your struggles and I too need a coach to keep me honest with my goals! Honestly there 1000’s if free programs on the internet’s, but I find people buy coaches, and the relationship part is missing when you just use some free program with no real rhyme or reason.
Thank you sir sharing that- do you want to share your current goal? 😍
🟦My current goals are to “tone” and shape my body. Along with this is to find a dietary plan that will foster this but also be sustainable for the long term. For the first time in a LONG time, I have no competitions, races, etc. to train for, so my goals are mine alone to make! 🙂
🟥 Ahhhhh yes. And as you know you can’t shape a body unless you LIFT WEIGHTS! Such an important message !! And yes, without those 2-3 month goals on the radar, can you just train for the long game? For health? For sustainable results?
I am here for it!! Thank you for trusting me!
